1. Quaternity chess is a four-player modern chess game that can be played by either 4 players or 4 teams of players. The game of
Quaternity is a game of all against all. The aim of the game is to checkmate as many players as possible, win their armies, and last till the end! The winner is determined either by who survives till the end or whoever has gained the most points!
2. How does one play Quaternity?
You can enjoy the game of Quaternity by understanding a few simple rules, once you have learned these rules, you can go deeper into the game
a. Each player or team will take turns in a clockwise direction to move their pieces. White always starts first. The positions of the pieces are as above.
b. The aim of each player or team is to checkmate as many rival players as he/she can and last till the end. For each player he/she checkmates, he/she will gain the remaining pieces of that opponent left on the board.
c. The pieces follow the way that traditional chess pieces move, the exception being the Central Pawns.
d. There is no castling or two steps for an initial move for the pawn.
e. Checkmates can be done in a direct or indirect manner.
f. A player or team can resign, after which his/her pieces will be regarded as Zombie pieces which can be checkmated by the other players or teams
g. The game can be played on a points basis, and conducted as a tournament.
h. Time-limit games add excitement and urgency to the game. A special Quaternity Clock is available for this purpose.
